I remember it best for being one of the first fighters with multi-tiered stages and environment influenced attacks.Others might remember it also for the rock, paper, scissors gameplay mechanics and, naturally, the blatant sex appeal of scantly clad buxom women fighting. Since I was nine years old when Dead or Alive was originally released on Dreamcast, this idea didn't catch on too much with me at the time lol.
Sex sells though it would seem:PBesides the visual facelift, Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate improves the previous PS2 and Dreamcast releases with extra costumes, new stages and (the now defunct) online play. Tecmo kindly included a new FMV opening aswell to help make the plot make more sense with the often ambiguous cut-scenes - I will post this opening later. And finally, Hitomi of Dead or Alive 3 was added as a character.Personally, I find Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate to be the definitive game in the series but there are a number of shortcomings that don't make it my favourite version of Dead or Alive 2.
My main concern is that they didn't add a whole lot to the gameplay or sound. Most of the upgrades with Dead or Alive 2 Ultimate are apparent in the graphics and presentation but past that and it the same deal as it was in 1999. That sucks, because DOA2 Ultimate could of benefited from DOA3's movesets. If they included Hitomi, it makes little sense why the movesets couldn't of been carried over aswell. The sound aswell hasn't been altered as much as it could of been.But otherwise, some frame-rate hiccups aside I highly recommend any Xbox owner to check this one out. Dead or Alive 2 was, and still is, one of the easiest fighters to pick up and play. I think it is miles better than any subsequent game in the series also.
