I have a project that I am working on and I would like to make several objects in my comp do a dance. So I used the puppet tool to create my animation and used a loop expression so this dance continues through my comp.I would like to zoom into certain aspects of my animation but the puppet warp effect doesn't stay where it is supposed to. I precomposed the objects that have the puppet warp tool and that works great, until I click on the cog to continually rasterize my layer (it is an illustrator file). At this point I think my only option would be to precomposed my object that has the puppet warp effect applied and then just make that precomp large enough that if I zoom in on my main comp it still looks crisp. So does anybody have any experience with this? Any suggestions to this problem?. It's a bit late for it maybe, but you could use the expression pickwip to link each puppet pin to null and keyframe the null's position.
Then, if you parent the null to the layer, the puppet pins will follow its transformation. It would have been easier if you'd rigged this up before you started animating, but you can still fix it:. create a null for every puppet pin. rename them to something that makes sense. copy/paste the puppet pin position keyframes to their respective null's position property. use the expression pickwip to link the puppet pins to their null's position. parent the nulls to the layer(s).
I haven't toyed with it, but it sounds like the Puppet Tool works respective to the comp. As in, all the points apply to the screenspace of the comp itself, and not on the image - so that when you alter the image in any way (such as moving the camera), the pins stay stuck on where they are (in other words, they stay on the same pixel on your monitor). What you said sounds right: Make the image's comp much larger, apply the pin, pre-compose and scale back down, so that zooming will keep it crisp.

By using a motion path, you can essentially have an object follow a predetermined path set by the pen tool. There’s also a really cool auto-orient feature in After Effects that allows your object to stay facing the right direction when on a motion path. This is perfect if you’re animating a car or ship along a predetermined path. Graph EditorPrice: Free, included in After Effects. We’ve said it before and we’ll keep saying it forever: the fastest way to make your animation look more organic is to use the graph editor feature in After Effects. If you’re not already familiar with the graph editor, it’s essentially a small X and Y graph that can be used to display how position, scale, or any other parameter acts over time.
